Being a huge Bulls, I was glad to see the Bulls win at least 1 game without their star, Derick Rose. After Rose went down, a lot of people still thought that the Bulls would blow past the 76ers… the next thing we knew, the Bulls were down 3-1! Fortunately, the Bulls won their game last night, so they will live to play another game. As bad as it looks, if the Bulls can find a way to come up with a victory on the road, the 76ers will have to beat the Bulls in Chicago if they want to advance. This game 6 is HUGE for the 76ers. They lose, and all the momentum goes back to Chicago. They win, it’s off to the 2nd round.
The big question is, are the Bulls capable of winning on the road, in a playoff atmosphere, without their star? The Bulls have played a large part of their season without Rose, so this isn’t something new for them. Some have even argued that the team has better chemistry without Rose! While I don’t buy into that, that argument could certainly be made as the Bulls played extremely well in some games, completely blowing out whoever got in their way. On the flip side, the Bulls also lost some games they should’ve won with their star out.
This past Saturday was the Red and White game for the Arkansas Razorbacks. This was the first time in recent memory that the Razorbacks had to do their spring game without a head coach. If you follow sports at all, then you know that the reason why there was not a head coach for the game was because Bobby Petrino, the most recent head coach, with cause for having an “inappropriate relationship” with a 25 year old girl. As if that weren’t bad enough, it came out that Bobby had actually hired her to be on staff just a few days before their relationship became public. He had a bike wreck with supposedly on the back. You could say that he not only wrecked his bike, but he also wrecked his current career and future with the hogs. Which is too bad, because he was the most popular man in the state! Point & case – after the wreck and after everything became public, fans still wanted him to stay so badly that they actually did a “keep Bobby protest” before he was fired. You won’t find too many people who blame Jeff Long for his decision to fire Petrino however, because it later came out the he had a relationship with her dating back to September, and gave a $20,000 gift before hiring her.
All that being said, that is the reason the Hogs were without a head coach for the Spring game. But did that stop the hogs from looking good? Nope, not at all! Tyler Wilson, the team’s QB, came out on fire! He completed over 70% of his passes! Now, this was against the 2nd team defense, but regardless, those are good numbers! He was on target on just about everyone of his passes. Brandon Allen, the current backup who was moved up the depth chart after Brandon decided to play basketball this past winter, looked impressive as well. His number may not stand out like Tyler’s does, but there were plenty of passes that were dropped that should’ve been completed. When Allen went out with the first team, he completed just about all of his passes, and lead the first down the field for a touchdown.
Ronnie Wingo also look impressive. He had quite a few carries with the absence of Knile Davis. He seemed to be getting up to full speed very quickly. The guy runs a 4.3 so he has wheels when/if he gets in the open field. Dennis Johnson, the other running back looked good as well. With the departure of the hogs top wideouts, the running game could play an intricate part in the offense this season.
If you live in the state of Arkansas, you have almost certainly heard of the lawn mower boys. In case you don’t live the Natural State, here’s a quick recap; a group of high school students in the south decided that instead of driving a regular vehicle to school like a car, truck, or even a scooter, they decided to drive lawn mowers! While many of their peers thought that this was funny, the administration didn’t find much humor in this.
For whatever reason, the administration really didn’t like the young students driving to school on the lawn mowers. As a matter of fact, they actually punished the kids for doing this! Thinking that this would teach the kids a lesson, they (from what we understand, this may not be entirely accurate) placed the young kids in detention. The administrators were upset because they felt that driving the lawn mowers to school caused a distraction to everyone. Little did the administration know, but doing this would end up backfiring on them!
Because of the backlash from the administration, the local news picked up the story. After the local new picked up the story, other news stations across the state heard about it and decided to cover the story as well! There’s no way that the administration could have seen this coming, otherwise they likely would’ve handled things differently. The reason why we say that is because most media, thus most people that heard the story, took sides with the students. Many people, including the media, believe that the administration simply overreacted and shouldn’t have punished the young kids the way they did. Because of their reaction to the students, many people who never would’ve known about all of this, now know, causing a bigger scene than the kids riding a mower to school did!
There is a good twist to this story! The kids have decided to make the most of the situation by having shirts made. All profits from the shirt sales will be donated to a charitable cause (which we believe to be the Arkansas Children’s Hosipital). Kudos to the kids!
While we believe that the administration did overreact, we also understand where they are coming from. That said, kudos to the administration for trying to keep order at the school. In our opinion, it’s far better to have an administration who overreacts on something, than an administration who will let anything happen and does not care at all about the kids.
